Marketing Volunteer

Independents Biennial 2025 is shaping up to be our most ambitious programme yet, with a bold vision and an exciting lineup of artists, exhibitions, and events. To bring it all to life, we’re looking for enthusiastic Marketing Volunteers to join us from March to September 2025.

This role requires flexibility, as marketing activities will take place across various times and locations throughout the programme.

As a Marketing Volunteer, you’ll play a key role in promoting the festival, engaging audiences, and shaping how the Independent Biennial is experienced both online and in person. Whether you’re passionate about social media, content creation, audience research, or press and communications, this role provides an opportunity to develop your marketing skills within a large-scale arts festival.

Your Role & Responsibilities

As a Marketing Volunteer, you may be involved in one or more of the following areas:

  • Social Media & Content Creation – Capture event highlights, create engaging social media posts, manage updates, and help grow our online presence.
  • Press & Communications Support – Assist in writing press releases, newsletters, and promotional materials to reach wider audiences.
  • Photography & Video Support – Document festival events, exhibitions, and artist interactions through high-quality images and video content for marketing use.
  • Visitor Research & Insights – Conduct surveys, gather audience feedback, and contribute to evaluation reports to help shape future marketing strategies.

Training & Support

All volunteers will receive a full induction and role-specific training, including:

  • Social media & content strategy
  • Marketing and communications 
  • Audience research and engagement 
  • Press, media, and storytelling best practices
  • General safeguarding and health & safety training
  • Personalised training based on your specific responsibilities

Ongoing support and supervision will be provided by senior staff throughout the festival.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds! The following qualities would be beneficial for this role:

  • Enthusiasm for marketing, social media, and audience engagement.
  • Interest in contemporary art, culture, and digital storytelling.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Confidence in photography, video editing, or digital content creation (not essential but a bonus!).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A creative and proactive approach to engaging audiences.
