Independents Biennial 2025, Open Calls

Independents Biennial 2025, Open Calls

Context:

Independents Biennial is artist-led, and we want to make sure our artists still feel able to lead their own plans too.

Projects including Hilbre Island’s Archipelago Arts will be developing programmes alongside Independents Biennial 2025, with minimal interference from us, because, frankly, they know what they’re doing, and they know their subject, without us getting in the way.

Other projects have applied for funding above and beyond our commission amounts, and we are happy to help other artists develop their own funding bids for larger projects happening next summer too.

But equally, if you’ve secured your own gallery space and developed projects that are happening in Merseyside next summer, we’d love to hear from you and see how we can help, or if we can simply include your work in the catalogue, where it can and will benefit from new audiences and artists from across the country seeking to develop new relationships and new work.

For artists:

We are actively encouraging artists to be as ambitious as possible in their thinking for next year. This is an opportunity to take the streets of Merseyside back into the hands of artists, and make it a better, more vibrant place to be. We are capable of presenting culture without structure, and without permission. Independents Biennial is here to help that happen.

If you have a project but no space, please get in touch, and we’ll try to coordinate an appropriate venue for your work.

If you have space, but need collaborators, get in touch and we’ll put you in touch with artists looking to develop something with similar outcomes.

If you have space, a developed project and a plan, then we just need the event details so we can review it for inclusion in the programme.

Email patrick@artinliverpool.com by 1st March to confirm your place in the programme.

For venues:

If you’ve got programme confirmed for next summer, we need to know earlier than usual. If you’re got space, but no programme, we’ve got a series of commissions, but can also match artists form this open call to you to help build a stronger programme.

We need to know by 1st February if you’d like to be involved in 2025’s programme, but can develop plans until mid-March.

Get in touch with patrick@artinliverpool.com for more information.

Costs:

There are no fees for inclusion in Independents Biennial.

We will support marketing, and the development of this work, your practice, and/or venue.
