Imagie a piece of fine muslin the size of Europe or bigger, drawn through Liverpool like the eye of a needle and unfolded on the other sides of the seas. Woven from the threads of migrants and merchants, the hopeful and the desperate, a fabric of spun lifetimes of many long threads.

Nine million or more came here to embark at Pier Head in search of a better life. Where then is the testimony to the departees, the marker stone to a population the size of London, who pass through gateway Liverpool?
