Date(s): 22/07/2023 - 13/08/2023
12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Following The Drawing Shows at Arena Studios and Gallery and The Bridewell Studios and Gallery, Colette Lilley has been invited to present an independent exhibition of artist’s work that could be described as drawing for drawing’s sake. The show, to be curated by Colette Lilley with three other North-West regional practicing artists Sarah Jane Richards, and Jon Barraclough and Mike Carney of the Drawing Paper will be installed at The Bridewell Studios and Gallery, to coincide with the Liverpool Biennial 2023, Friday 21st July until Sunday 13th August.
The exhibition will also be published in a special, limited edition, 9th Issue of Drawing Paper, distributed nationally), and on a dedicated website.
Drawing (Paper) Show is an exhibition and a special edition of the Drawing Paper (issue number 9), showcasing the diverse and varied drawings of 50 artists from around the world, including local North West artists.
The artists were selected from 1,161 entries from around the world who responded to an open call via Instagram, whose work could be described as drawing for drawings sake.
Drawing is sometimes considered as a preliminary practice to more important ends. Our focus here is on drawing as a dialogue between artist and viewer, via the marks made, to engage, transport, inform, and excite; exploring drawing as its own end point.
We were overwhelmed by the amount of entries we received and the standard of work submitted – we are thrilled to be able to showcase the work of artists who have achieved critical acclaim including the winner of the Portrait Artist of the Year 2020 and artists who have exhibited with the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize and The John Moores Painting Prize.
If you are unable to make the Private View and Launch we will be doing an Instagram live, follow @drawingpapershow for more information.
The exhibition will be installed at The Bridewell Studios and Gallery (a Grade 2 Listed building), to coincide with the Liverpool Biennial 2023, running from Saturday 22nd July until Sunday 13th August, open daily 12 pm – 5 pm.
After the launch the Drawing Paper will then be available at venues in Liverpool and further afield. You will also be able to view a digital version of the Drawing Paper online at www.drawingpapershow.com
