Liver Bards: The Earth Hums (poetry open mic, Ma Boyle’s) – 8pm

Liver Bards presents the ‘the Earth hums’ poetry event

Liver Bards marks the anniversary of the passing of Bengali polymath Rabindranath Tagore on August 7th 1941 with an evening of poetry and spoken word that takes a snippet of one of his poems as its title: the Earth hums.

Liver Bards is a time and place for poets and those that like to be around them to get together and share their truths in an exquisite and intimate space.

On the first Tuesday of every month, we meet in Ma Boyle’s Alehouse and Eatery, downstairs, behind the curtain of the Rum and Rumour basement drinking den and cabaret bar.

Turn up from 7.30 if you’d like to put your name down for a slot (up to 5 mins) and the magic begins around 8.

We have one or two short breaks to rehydrate and ruminate. We finish our shenanigans by 10.30 when we greet the night renewed.

Looking forward to seeing all you creative souls there.

Compere Ali remarks, ‘Everyone is welcome to speak their words freely at Liver Bards. You can use the title as a starting point or completely ignore it if you’ve got a poem that needs to be shared. We’re happy to be part of the Independents Biennial. Perhaps you might want to write a poem in response to some of the art you’ve seen at the festival. We look forward to seeing new and familiar faces.’

Biography

Ali Harwood is an artist, poet, writer and teacher. He searches for the places where myths become real. Ali’s art appears from the walls of Jamaica Street to the screens of the Queen Elizabeth Hall; his poetry travels from the dance of kathak and its illuminating power to hosting the monthly Liver Bards event; he writes of dragons and stonecutters for all who are young at heart; and he teaches in home and schools by listening for where to start.
