Discover The Art of Rust Printing Workshop
Landlines Studio

We invite you to a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the techniques of rust printing, using discarded rusted items to create stunning, one-of-a-kind patterns on cotton and silk. What You’ll Learn: Techniques for preparing and treating your fabric and the different ways to prepare both protein fibres (silk) and cellulose fibres (cotton, bamboo silk). How to source, repurpose, and prepare discarded rust. Experimenting with patterns, textures, and composition. Caring for and preserving your rust-printed textiles. Making the most of the time whilst your rust prints develop, you’ll have the opportunity to get creative with our own hand-made rust pigment and inks. This workshop is perfect for artists, fashion and textile enthusiasts, and sustainability-conscious creatives looking to explore an eco-friendly printing technique. No prior experience is needed. Materials Provided: All fabric, rusted objects, and necessary tools will be supplied. Just bring your creativity and a willingness to experiment. Aprons will be provided, but please wear suitable clothing that you don’t mind getting messy. Important Information: Please note that our studio is located on the second floor of a Grade I listed building. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the building, there is no lift access. Therefore, the space is not accessibility friendly. Please take this into consideration when booking.

About Landlines Studio

Through the marrying of their individual creative practices, visual artists Angela Stringer and Nicky Perrin create site specific mixed media artworks which are grounded in place, thanks to their collective use of natural earth pigments and botanical dyes.

Engaging with their local Wirral environment and beyond, gathering raw materials such as rocks, soil, clay and botanical matter, they hand process these into fine pigments, natural dyes and paint, and layer them over rust prints made with discarded objects.

Weaving in the stories of a place, acknowledging its history and significance, the work serves as a vehicle to consider heritage, sustainability and wellbeing whilst establishing both a physical and metaphorical connection to the natural world. Their work is a conversation with the land, the past, the seasons and each other.
