Acrylic paint, balloons, duct tape, floor fans, fluorescent lights, L.E.D. lights, oil paint, paper, Perspex light boxes, Polyethylene, poster paint, and string.

Information In Exile II is the second iteration of Chesterman’s multi-sensory, immersive installation. Continuing his inquiry into 21st-century issues and the futile condition of information, the exhibition exposes a desolate environment that reveals the deserted ruins of unconsumed media.

Society has become subject to continuous consumption of information, which influences our reality. The accumulation of mass information authorises a system that intravenously feeds our thirst for momentary visual immersion. Proximity to content, captivating as it is, masks the actual condition of unexploited information.

The digital age means we are now exposed to everyone and instantly connected to everything within our world. Whilst the scroll speed soars, a lack of interaction intensifies inactivity. Crucially, representation expires and can no longer inform. Information blackens as it becomes benign.

The mass production of screens has become an unshakeable infiltration into public normalcy, with various formats becoming a ubiquitous personal staple. Framing and illuminating the vast virtual domain, once absent of command, the screen too becomes obscured by the dying glow.

Withdrawn from a network that once prevailed in occupation, information now lies dormant, missed from mere passing. Here, ephemerality becomes reality, and physicality prevails from the dematerialised screen, as its information remains in exile. Within the darkness, our dependence on light becomes obvious.

Zoom out and away from the algorithm surge to discover the disarray of discarded data within an environment where its future is futile.
