BIRCH Studios & Gallery
Exhibition: 11-17 August 2025
Performance-Lecture: 14 August, 5PM
Gut Feelings is a collaborative performance-lecture by researcher Nam J Huh and composer Ewan James Knight, exploring the sonic and social dimensions of involuntary bodily sounds- like stomach growls, throat clearing, and sobs. Through improvised sound, live sampling, lecture, and found footage, the piece reframes embarrassment and discomfort as spaces for connection and care.
The exhibition expands on the performance, featuring installations, performance-related research texts, drawings by Nam, Ewan’s sound pieces, and a video work by Ryu Kim, created in response to the project’s original sound samples. Researcher Lara Jennings contributes a medieval-style triptych installation reflecting themes of rupture, intimacy, and embodied resonance.
Join us for the live performance on 14 August at 5PM. The exhibition is open all week.
