Cordales

Cordales is a seven-page comic that captures a pivotal moment in a person’s life as they choose to leave behind the external world and enter a reality shaped entirely by their own mind—a place where imaginary friends and departed friends still live. Blurring the lines between memory, imagination, and escape, Cordales is situated within the threshold crossed when trauma and overwork erode one’s connection to the outside world. The work is part of a wider project investigating the impact of excessive labor and unprocessed trauma.

The exhibition will take place at Elevator Studios, Liverpool from the 6th until the 29th of August.

About the artists:

NACHO YUNIS is a comicbook artist & graphic designer born in Argentina.
He teaches Illustration to children, and Creative Art to Design students.
Years ago he worked as a volunteer at Ronald McDonald’s house in Barcelona drawing with/for children and together painted a mural.
He likes drawing, riding his bike, reading books and comicbooks, dogs, and watching movies with his wife and two daughters.

Mariana Sequera is a transdisciplinary artist and occasional writer from Caracas, Venezuela whose recent work is at times socially engaged and tends to explore performance, gleaning, reclaiming narratives, cultural and familial memory.

Francesca Fryer (she/her) is an emerging curator and art researcher in the Liverpool region. Her curatorial practice is embedded with processes of care, hosting, and facilitation, organising exhibitions and projects that think carefully about public engagement and community outreach. Whilst coming from a fine art and art history background, she is also currently finishing her MA in Exhibition Studies at LJMU.
