Totally agree with loads of this… the whole idea of identity in your work is a weird one for me. I dont think I’ve ever thought about it to any real extent, but some parts of this conversation have come up lately. Ive seen people comment many times that such and such doesnt have enough of themselves in their work, but that cant be true right? being present in your work can be a thought, idea or opinion rather than the visual surely? Its like the graphic design idea you use, even working to a brief would mean your approach was formed by your identity even if you dont see it?
I suppose the ultimate in revealing hidden identities would be to fill a gallery with unnamed work and try to guess who created it… the art version of that thing you do at a baby shower… guess the gender, weight and time of birth… closest guess wins a tenner
