Independents Biennial

In studying the impact of time and space on her painting practice, Fiona Stirling made up two terms ‘painting ad hoc’ and ‘inbetweener painting’. These terms describe the process of painting in between other jobs or responsibilities.

This project focusses on significant aspects of Fiona Stirling’s painting process including painting ad hoc and inbetweener painting in relation to other women painters. Later in the programme, Independents Biennial will be sharing a public symposium curated by Fiona Stirling

Fiona Stirling is an artist and mother. Since beginning her PhD, she has been researching into the impact of time and space on the paintings of contemporary mid-life women artists. She investigates this theme by making paintings and exploring the work of other female artists. Alongside her practice, Fiona works as an educator, managing the Foundation art course and teaching on the BA (Hons) Fine Art Painting degree at St Helens College. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally and is actively involved in the wider discussion around this area.
