Sufea Mohamad Noor will be in residence as part of the Independents Biennial 2020 Residency opportunity in partnership with Metal.

Sufea Mohamad Noor (b.1993) is an artist, curator and fundraiser based in Liverpool. Her primary interests are useful art and postcolonial discourse. Sufea was mentored by Alistar Hudson and was taught by Griselda Pollock at the University of Leeds where she completed her MA in Art Gallery and Museum Studies (2019). She is currently exploring typography and embodiment through the practice of making artist books, hosting communal meals and creating textiles sculptures. Previous commissions include The Good Society Sunday Lunch at The Bluecoat, Liverpool (2017) and PAGES New Voices at The Tetley, Leeds (2019). She was also awarded the UKYA and Porthmeor Studio Residency in St Ives (2018), UKYA Cultural Leadership Coaching (2018) and Helen’s Gossip Professional Development Bursary from Heart of Glass (2018).  She recently published an article about representation, peers and mentors in contemporary art for Museum ID.

Sufea is the co-chair for the BAME Network at Tate and is a member of Museum Detox NORTH.
